Why Is Wealthy Affiliate Good for Churches? How I Used It to Grow a Church Online
When most people hear the name Wealthy Affiliate, they probably do not immediately think:
I certainly didn't.
In fact, when I first heard the name Wealthy Affiliate, I was skeptical.
The word wealthy reminded me of all the online programs promising people that they could become rich overnight.
And the word affiliate made me think about people trying to sell programs by showing expensive cars, huge houses, and promises of quitting your job and making money while you sleep.
That was my perception of affiliate marketing.
But then I discovered something.
And for me, that became much bigger than building an online business.
I wanted to use those skills to help our church reach more people.
What Is Wealthy Affiliate?
Wealthy Affiliate is an online training and website platform primarily designed to help people learn how to build and grow an online business.
But many of the things taught inside the platform apply far beyond traditional affiliate marketing.
- Search engine optimization
- Keyword research
- WordPress websites
- Content creation
- Digital marketing
- Traffic generation
- Website hosting
- Research and AI-assisted tools
And that is where I believe churches can find real value.
A church may never have any interest in affiliate marketing.
But understanding how people search Google, how websites work, how keywords work, and how useful content gets discovered can be incredibly valuable for ministry.
Why I Started Looking for SEO Training
I did not originally become interested in Wealthy Affiliate because I wanted to become an affiliate marketer.
I wanted to learn how to improve the online presence of our church.
At the time, I was serving as a missionary in South Africa, and I began realizing how many people were going online before ever walking through the doors of a church.
People were searching for things like:
- Churches in their area
- Recovery programs
- Help with addiction
- Ministries
- Service times
- Directions
- Answers to spiritual questions
And I wanted our ministry to be visible when those searches happened.
That journey introduced me to something called Search Engine Optimization, or SEO.
I Had Already Paid Someone Else to Do SEO
Before finding Wealthy Affiliate, I had already tried paying another company to handle SEO for me.
I was paying around $99 per month.
One month went by.
Then two months.
Then three months.
Then four months.
Every time I asked what was happening, I was basically told: “SEO takes time.”
And they were right about one thing.
SEO does take time.
But my problem was that I had absolutely no idea what they were doing.
Eventually I learned that we technically were ranking for a keyword, but it was a weak keyword that hardly anyone searched for.
That experience made me realize that even if I eventually hired someone else to help with SEO, I still wanted to understand the basics.
I wanted to know enough to recognize whether the work was actually moving us forward.
Why the Starter Membership Got My Attention
One of the things that originally caught my attention about Wealthy Affiliate was that I could begin exploring the platform without immediately making a major financial commitment.
That lowered the risk for me.
Instead of someone saying:
“Give us hundreds of dollars and trust us.”
I could actually enter the platform, look around, start learning, and decide whether I thought the training had value.
I think that approach makes sense for churches too.
You can explore the Starter option first and determine whether the platform fits the person in your church who wants to learn SEO, websites, or digital marketing.
Why Is Wealthy Affiliate Good for Churches?
Here is the key.
Wealthy Affiliate was not created specifically for churches.
It is primarily designed around online business and digital marketing.
But many of the principles being taught can be applied to almost any website that wants to reach more people.
That includes a church website.
- Search engine optimization
- Keyword research
- WordPress
- Content marketing
- Website structure
- Local visibility
- Digital marketing
- Understanding website traffic
Wealthy Affiliate Helped Me Understand Keyword Research
Keyword research was one of the biggest eye-openers for me.
Churches often use language that makes perfect sense to people already inside the church.
But people outside the church may be searching completely different words.
A church might describe itself as having a “dynamic worship experience.”
But someone who just moved into the city may simply search:
“Christian church near me”
Keyword research helps us understand the language people are already using when they search online.
Today I still use keyword research as part of the way I build church websites and create content.
In fact, the keyword research behind the article you are reading right now was done using Jaaxy, a research tool connected to Wealthy Affiliate.
How I Used What I Learned to Help Our Church in South Africa
This is where the story becomes much more personal.
I began applying what I was learning about SEO and digital marketing to our church's website and Google presence in South Africa.
And we started seeing results.
In my original Wealthy Affiliate review, I documented periods where our church's Google presence was generating significant search and map visibility.
People were finding us through Google Search and Google Maps.
Some visited the website.
Some requested directions.
Some called the church.
SEO Was Not the Mission
Our church was reaching people affected by drug addiction and gangsterism.
We also had a recovery ministry helping men and women who wanted to make changes in their lives.
And something started happening.
Because people could find the ministry online, individuals looking for recovery help and support were discovering our church and contacting us.
SEO helped people find the mission.
That is one of the reasons I became so passionate about church SEO.
When someone searches Google during a difficult season of life, your church website may be one of the first ministry doors they walk through.
Your Church Website Can Work 24 Hours a Day
I used to say something when I was seeing what our online presence was accomplishing:
Think about that for a moment.
Your website can communicate with people while you are sleeping.
- It can show someone your service times.
- It can introduce a parent to your children's ministry.
- It can give someone directions.
- It can explain your recovery ministry.
- It can answer common questions.
- It can help someone plan their first visit.
What Are the Benefits of Wealthy Affiliate for Churches?
I believe the biggest benefit is not that Wealthy Affiliate will automatically “do SEO” for your church.
The bigger benefit is that someone in your church can begin learning how digital marketing actually works.
- WordPress
- SEO
- Keyword research
- Content strategy
- Website structure
- Google visibility
- Digital marketing
- Basic website analytics
That person does not necessarily have to become a professional web developer.
They simply need to become equipped enough to help the church move forward digitally.
Who in Your Church Should Learn This?
Not every pastor needs to become an SEO specialist.
I would look for someone in the church who already has an interest in areas such as:
- Websites
- Technology
- Communications
- Media
- Marketing
- Writing
- Social media
Then equip that person.
That one person can eventually become incredibly valuable to the church's digital outreach.
How to Use Wealthy Affiliate for Your Church
If I were helping a church begin today, I would keep the process simple.
Step 1: Explore the Starter Membership
Look around the platform and begin with the introductory training.
You do not have to rush into a paid membership before determining whether the platform makes sense for you.
Step 2: Learn Basic SEO
Begin understanding keywords, page titles, internal links, useful content, and search intent.
Step 3: Research Your Community
Start learning what people in your city are actually searching for.
Step 4: Improve Your Church Website
Apply what you learn to your homepage, ministry pages, visitor information, and local content.
Step 5: Create Helpful Content
Answer real questions people are searching for online.
Step 6: Measure What Happens
Use tools such as Google Search Console and Google Business Profile to see how people are discovering your church.
Then keep learning and improving.
Starter vs. Paid Wealthy Affiliate Membership for Churches
I would not recommend that a church immediately purchase a paid membership simply because one is available.
Start with this question:
If you are simply exploring SEO and digital marketing education, begin with the Starter option.
If you eventually want deeper training, additional research capabilities, website hosting, and more of the platform's tools, then one of the paid options may make more sense.

What I Like About Wealthy Affiliate
After being involved with the platform since 2019, several things have stood out to me.
- The training is practical. You learn while working on real websites and content.
- Keyword research is part of the process. This helped me understand what people were actually searching for.
- Multiple tools are brought together. Training, research, website tools, hosting, and content tools can work within the same ecosystem.
- You can begin by exploring first. I appreciated being able to learn before deciding how deeply I wanted to use the platform.
- It helped me understand SEO. This has been the biggest benefit for me personally.
What Churches Should Know Before Joining
I also want to be clear about what Wealthy Affiliate is not.
- It is not a church management system.
- It is not specifically designed for pastors.
- It will not automatically grow your church.
- It does not guarantee Google rankings.
- You still have to learn and apply what you are learning.
- SEO still takes time.
Much of the platform is geared toward people who want to create online businesses.
As a church, you have to take the principles that apply to you and use them for ministry.
Is Wealthy Affiliate Worth It for a Church?
For every church?
Probably not.
But for a church with someone who genuinely wants to learn SEO, WordPress, keyword research, content marketing, website development, and digital strategy?
For me personally, the value went far beyond affiliate marketing.
What I learned became part of how I approached church websites, content, Google visibility, SEO, and digital outreach.
And years later, I am still applying many of those principles.

Explore Wealthy AffiliateFinal Thoughts
When I first discovered Wealthy Affiliate, I thought it was mainly about making money online.
What I discovered was a collection of digital marketing skills that could be applied to much more than affiliate marketing.
I applied those principles to ministry.
I applied them to our church.
I applied them to PastorDre.com.
And those experiences helped shape something I still believe today:
Your church website is not simply a digital brochure.
It can become a doorway.
- A doorway for the person looking for a church.
- A doorway for the family looking for help.
- A doorway for someone searching for recovery.
- A doorway for someone looking for hope.
And sometimes one of the most important things we can do is learn how to make sure those people can find us.
