I don't have time to tell you about some of the mistakes I have made, and some have been hilarious and I learning opportunity, but I will tell you of one.
When I first learning Afrikaans, I got inspired to sing a Koortjie during church service.
The worship team was singing the koortjie “Hy is Die Rots.” So I asked the person next to me what are they saying in English and he said they are saying “He is my Rock.”
So I said ok this is my opportunity. So I get the mic and I tell the worship let's sing that song again, but this time I join in.
Now remember I was told they are saying “He is my Rock” in English and the closest thing I know to rock in rok.
So I get the mic and I start singing, very loudly, “Hy is my Rots”, “Hy is my Rots” and yep you guessed it. I was actually saying in Afrikaans, He is my Dress.
You can imagine how embarrassing that was, lol but I have come a long way…
I have a lot more, but we will go ahead and stop there. lol
Ok know back to learning Afrikaans.
